Now, if you're a regular Moda Misfit viewer, you know that I talk about cozy hygge decor in a lot of my videos. So in this video, I want to dive deeper into creating a hygge experience in your apartment, not just a hygge aesthetic.
Because hygge is so much more than an aesthetic It's also about mindset and the experiences you give yourself in your apartment.
So here are some hygge apartment activities that I personally love to do in the fall and winter seasons that give me those feelings of wellbeing, warmth, and coziness that hygge embodies!

So before we dive into these cozy hygge activities, I want to let you know that for the sake of brevity, I am going to be limiting myself to one recommendation per activity. Because initially as I was outlining this, I got super carried away and listed out like a thousand things.
If you want me to make more videos expanding further on each subject I'm about to talk about in this video, then let me know in the comments below because I would love to do that. I'm very interested in sort of expanding the channel into not just how we decorate our apartments, but what we do inside them. The lifestyle stuff, you know? So let me know in the comments if that sounds like something you'd be into!
Okay, let's dive in!
Hygge Activity #1:
Cozy up with a good book
I don't know about you, but when the air starts feeling crisp outside and the skies start getting darker and grayer, I think there's nothing more romantic and hygge as just cuddling up with a good book.
And the book I'm recommending for the fall/winter hygge cozy vibes is called The Tenth Girl by Sara Faring. (that’s an affiliate link, btw!).
This book is so good, and it’s beautifully written. The way it's written immediately feels cozy. It's a dark, moody, gothic thriller that's perfect for the spooky season.
It's about a girl who starts a new job at an all-girls boarding school. This boarding school is in this super old house, and strange things start happening in this old house.
If you're a lover of haunted house stories, you'll love this book. But it's so much more than a haunted house story… and I can't say much more because I don't want to spoil it. But there is a huge twist that happens late in the book that basically changes everything you thought to be true up until that point in the book.
I'm trying really hard not to give too much away, but I highly recommend this book! It's perfect for fall winter. Like I said, it's very moody, it's very haunting, and it's just very vibey.
Hygge Activity #2:
Cozy Gaming
I myself have recently ventured into the magical world of cozy gaming, and now I am something of a die hard cozy gamer.
So the cozy game that I want to tell you about is perfect for fall and winter because it is so dark and moody and gothic. It just… it really hits.
And that game is Strange Horticulture. Strange Horticulture is such a vibe. The second I started playing it, I was in love, I was intrigued, I was enchanted.
What I really loved about it is it made me feel very nostalgic for the old point-and-click games that I would play on the computer when I was little. It really took me back to that experience, and it's been a long time since I've played a point-and-click game. I forgot about how fun they actually are!
So in Strange Horticulture, you run a plant shop and you basically get customers that come to you with their problems, and then you prescribe certain plants to them to help them with those problems.
And while you're doing this, a very dark, gothic, witchy story unfolds. And it's kind of a choose your own adventure, where your decisions impact the result of the story.
And the reason why I picked this game above all other cozy games is because it is just so dark and moody and just perfect for fall/winter hygge vibes. So check it out if you want a really good, moody, mystery-fueled puzzle game to cozy up to on a gloomy day!
Hygge Activity #3:
Watch a cozy movie or show
The next hygge apartment activity I’m recommending is to curl up and watch a good movie or TV show. But not just any movie or show! There are certain movies and TV shows that are particularly suited for a cozy hygge day in the apartment.
And the movie that I'm going to recommend for this is Little Women, the one from the ‘90s with Winona Ryder. I haven't seen the new one, but the ‘90s one is one of my favorite movies of all time.
And the reason why Little Women is the perfect movie for a cozy fall/winter hygge day is because it just has a feeling of homeyness and coziness. The aesthetic is very wintry and Christmasy for a lot of the movie, and it's about the bond between these sisters and it's just… it's just a feel-good movie.
Now, there are so many TV shows in particular that I could go on about, but again, I'm trying to make this video, like, not a feature length film. So once again, let me know in the comments below if you want me to make a video where I talk about what I think are the coziest TV shows to curl up with on a gloomy fall day!
But for now, I am just leaving you with my recommendation to watch Little Women. It'll make you feel good, it'll make you feel cozy, and it will make you cry.
Hygge Activity #4:
Eat
Hygge is really about appealing to all of your senses. So not just the sense of sight, but also the sense of taste. So let's talk about the taste sense!
And there is a very specific dish that I want to recommend to you that is perfect for fall/winter, and it’s like a coziness explosion in your mouth, basically. And that is this delicious pumpkin pasta recipe that my boyfriend Kobee introduced into my life.
I've shared about this pasta in a previous video from a while ago, so some of you might remember it, but I feel like it's worth sharing again in a video that is specifically about cozy hygge for fall and winter. Like I feel like I would be remiss if I didn't talk about this pasta. So here's how you make it!
Pumpkin Pasta Recipe
Brown 1 package of Italian sausage, then set aside
Sizzle 1/2 chopped onion + at least 6 cloves of garlic in a pan with olive oil
Add 1 can of pumpkin puree
Add 1/2 cup of heavy cream
Add 1 cup of chicken broth
Add 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes + pinch of cinnamon
Mix in the sausage
Add desired amount of parmesan cheese
Serve and enjoy!
Watch the video to visually see how we make our Pumpkin Pasta, and you’ll be good to go to make it yourself!
Hygge Activity #5:
Drink
A big part of hygge is to eat, drink, and be merry. And that can be with a cozy cup of tea or coffee, or it can be with the adult beverage of your choice. And right now I'm gonna talk about the adult beverage of my choice.
If you're not a drinker, feel free to skip this one. But basically, I want share this delicious Brandy Manhattan recipe that, once again, my boyfriend Kobee introduced into my life.
This brandy Manhattan is like Christmas and a cup. It tastes like holiday cheer liquified.
It's the perfect drink to cozy up with under layers of faux fur blankets on your couch with a candle lit. This drink is basically a cup of hygge. So here's how you make it!
Brandy Manhattan Recipe
4 oz brandy (serves 2)
2 oz sweet vermouth
A few dashes of angostura aromatic bitters
Shake it all up in a shaker
Serve and enjoy!
All right, so those were the cozy hygge activities that you can do in your apartment on a gloomy fall/winter day. 🥰
These are the things that I personally love to do, so I hope that you walk away from this with some ideas on ways to just make your apartment experience feel that more special, that more cozy, and that more enchanting.
Once again, let me know in the comments below if you want me to do more videos about the experiences within an apartment in addition to the decorating of an apartment.
I'll be honest, ever since we moved out of the studio apartment a few months ago, I have been struggling with creating content for this channel because the studio was pretty much my muse. Now we're in this new apartment that I have not really been decorating as quickly as I would like to, and that's one of the reasons why I've been so inconsistent with my channel this year.
So I would love to talk more about TV shows to watch, games to play, music to listen to… you know, the things we DO in our apartments, not just the way we decorate them. So if you're down for a bit of an expansion of the Moda Misfit content universe, let me know in the comments below!
